What is monochromatic dressing anyway? If you are already familiar with this term, damn good, if not, don’t panic and let me explain it to you. Because I think you already know this way of dressing up, but just didn’t hear of the fashion term. The word mono stands for “one” and chromatic means “color” when you apply this to fashion it simply means wearing separate clothing of one color that have different textures and/or similar shades of that color for an overall tonal look. There’s no secret to wear monochromatic outfits and it’s the perfect way to draw attention to a new statement bag or a pair of shoes.
With this post I want to show you how I like to be creative with an outfit consisting out of one color. I chose to style a total grey look together with my new black statement shoes and the amazing bag with the quote “Shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist”. Definitely love this quote, don’t you agree?
When it comes to fashion there are no rules, but you can hold on to several key elements to create a perfect monochromatic outfit. I’m wearing different shades of grey within this outfit, this always work as you will create more depth in your look and you can highlight whatever you like. I didn’t only chose for different shades but also different textures, hereby you can prevent a more boring look when you are layering up. I applied this to the jacket, top and bottom. Also for the accessories you can keep it in the same tone like I mixed the grey hat and the silver sunglasses with it, to emphasize the grey-look. Or you can choose a completely different color to let the accessories stand out if you would like to achieve this. The things I wanted to highlight during this outfit are the bag and the shoes and as you can see they are immediately eye-cathing.
What do you think of my total-grey-monochromatic-outfit? The look I created is the perfect casual look to go shopping or when you just want to grab a drink at one of those cute bars you just discovered. Scroll down to see more detailed pictures of it and of course don’t miss out on the video of the outfit, enjoy watching! 🙂
